Day 2 (6 December)
Travel to Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)
Location: Show on Google Maps
Nearest Subway (MTR) Station:
University Station (■ East Rail Line)
From Hong Kong International Airport to CUHK
By Taxi
Follow the signs at the airport to the taxi rank, and there should be a member of the airport staff to help direct you – you just need to tell them your destination. You can show this page to the taxi driver or member of staff.
The fare is about HK$350-400 (including surcharges for luggage and tunnel tolls). Taxis do not accept credit card or Octopus Card payment. Most taxi drivers in Hong Kong understand some English. The trip from the Airport to the CUHK campus takes about 45 minutes, and will be the easiest option if you have a lot of luggage or heavy luggage.
By MTR
At the airport, you can buy an Octopus card, which you will then be able to use for all public transport and many shops/services during your stay in Hong Kong. You will have to pay a 50HKD deposit plus the amount you add for its use during your trip. You can always top this up further, later on.
You can then take the Airport Express to Hong Kong Station, walk a little (approx. 10 minutes) and change to the Island Line towards Chai Wan or the Tsuen Wan Line towards Tsuen Wan, where you will change trains at Admiralty to take the East Rail Line – then you’ll just get off at University Station. Please go to Exit A or D to enter the campus by presenting your HKID card/ Passport at the entrances.
This will cost less than 150HKD and take approx. 65mins.
By Bus
Follow the steps above to get an Octopus card.
Then, you can take the A41 bus and get off at Tai Wai Station, where you will change to the MTR East Rail Line towards Lo Wu/Lok Ma Chau, where you’ll get off at University Station. Please go to Exit A or D to enter the campus by presenting your HKID card/ Passport at the entrances.
This is the cheapest option, but not advisable if you have a lot of luggage. This takes around 1hr 15mins.
Other ways to visit CUHK
